International seminar on education and peace in Mumbai on May 15

Mumbai: An array of leading politicians and scholars will be in the city for a two-day international seminar on education and peace, to be held on May 15 and 16 with a special reference to Gandhian-Nehruvian perspective.
Organised by the World Peace Movement Trust, the seminar will see leaders giving their insight on making world a peaceful place for dwelling, free from strife and tension.
Trust Vice President Lakhmendra Khurana told newsmen here last night that notable participants in the two-day event would included Chief Ministers of Delhi, Ms Shiela Dixit and Maharashtra, Ashok Chavan, Union Minister of state for coal Sriprakash Jaiswal, Senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes, and Maharashtra State Congress President Manikrao Thakre. Former Election Commission Chief G V K Krishnamurthy and Asghar Ali Engineer would also be present.
Foreign delegates paarticipating would be Chairman of European Peace Research Association Dr Nebrin Kenar, Noble prize nominee for peace Dr Janja Bee, Prof Candice Carter from the US, M Suleman Kalkar, Deputy Minister for Education in Afghanistan, and Prof Mohn Synott, General Secretary of the Asia Pacific Peace Research Association in Australia.
Khurana said various issues that would be discussed during the two-day seminar included education and peace, education in globalisation, Gandhian philosophy, former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's ideas, conflict resolution, peace studies, India in regional and global politics.
He said noted Gandhian and former Tripura Governor Siddeshwar Prasad, Dr D N Subbarao, socialite H P Kanoria and Afghanistan Deputy Minister Suleman Kakar besides eminent constitutional expert Dr Subhash Kashyap would be honoured with Shantidoot-Ambassador of Peace Award on the occasion.
