Lecturer tries to burn wife alive in Greater Noida

Saturday December 15, 2012 05:44:00 PM, IANS

Lucknow: A lecturer at a private college in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida tried to burn his wife alive early Saturday, police said.

Ashwani, a lecturer at the ICC College in Greater Noida, some 485 km from here, had a verbal spat with his wife after which he beat her up and locked her in a room in their house in Beta-2 sector.

Police said the lecturer set the room on fire and fled. The couple's neighbours rescued the wife after she raised an alarm.

Senior Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar said Ashwani was arrested after his wife lodged a complaint at the Kasna police station.

The husband is from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
