Deoband:
In an unusual and extraordinary move, Tauqeer Raza Khan - noted Barelvi scholar and great grandson of Ala Hazrat Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi, on Saturday visited Darul Uloom Deoband and met rector of the leading seminary of Deobandi sect Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani and emphasised the need for unity to fight what he said the "common enemy".

"Officers influenced by RSS ideology are trying to malign the image of Muslims and Islam by arresting Muslim clerics in unfounded terror charges. But, they will not succeed in their design", Tauqeer Raza Khan said.

He said the Muslim leaders are against all sort of violence and acts of terrorism.

"When the Muslim leaders are against terrorism, how can our children be involved in such cases", Tauqeer Raza Khan, who was in Deoband to meet the family of Shakir Ansari, arrested by Delhi Special Cell, said.

He said it is with belief that Shakir and others arrested by the police are innocent, he has come to meet their family.

"I have come here to meet Shakir's mother becuase I believe Shakir and others are innocent. They should be released immediately", he said.

He also said attempts are on to divide the Muslims on sectarian ground and called upon the Muslims to get united.

"While sticking to our religious beliefs, we should get united to fight the common enemy. This is the only way-out", he said.

Tauqeer Raza Khan's visit to Darul Uloom Deoband is significant amid the reports that continuous efforts are on to divide Muslims on sectarian lines. It is alleged that the recently concluded Sufi Conference held in Delhi, which was addressed by Prime Minister Modi besides others, also had the same agenda.
