Omar Saad whose name was announced last week along with 17 others will contest the BMC 2017 polls from Ward No 208 in Byculla area.

"Omar Saad has been active in social work from last many years and hence he was selected as party’s candidate", Waris Pathan, AIMIM MLA from Byculla area said.

The AIMIM which will be contesting the all powerful Mumbai civic elections for the first time released the names of 18 candidates in the first list released last Monday.

Party MLA Waris Pathan and AIMIM Mumbai unit Chief Shakir Patni while releasing the party's first list said the AIMIM will contest the BMC elections in 50 wards.

Pathan also said that the party will release the second list of party candidayes very soon.

He also said that some sitting corporators and leaders from other parties are in touch with the AIMIM leadership.

"It will be announced later if they are joining the AIMIM", Pathan said.

Senior Congress leader and Chairman of Mumbai Congress Minority Cell Nizamuddin Rayeen resigned from the party on Saturday. Speculations are rife in the local political circles that he will be joining the AIMIM very soon.
