Abu Dhabi: A week after she had celebrated her birthday, Eman Ahmed, the world’s heaviest woman, breathed her last in Abu Dhabi on Monday. Eman was an Egyptian.
She died because of multiple complications - including intestinal shock and kidney failure - during her weight loss treatment at the hospital.
"The management of Burjeel Hospital is deeply saddened by the death of Eman Abdul Atti, the heaviest woman in the world. Eman died on Monday, September 25, 2017, at 4:35 am due to an intestinal shock and kidney failure.
"She was supervised by a team of more than 20 doctors from different disciplines who had successfully improved her health since she arrived in the UAE. She breathed her last early in the morning. We offer our prayers and sincere condolences to the family of the deceas", the hospital said in a statement.
Earlier this year, Eman was in Mumbai's Saifi Hospital for a weight loss surgery. When she left Mumbai her weight was close to 300kg lighter after the treatment.
At the Burjeel Hospital, a team of around 20 healthcare professionals were treating her as per a treatment plan divided into three stages.
Last month, a video of Eman was viral on social media in which she was seen dancing in her bed.
