After Modi's Pakoda, Tripur CM's advice to youth: Set up 'paan shop', rear cows

Agartala: What seems to be a redux of Prime Minister Modi's now infamous "Pakoda" comment, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has on Sunday asked the unemployment youth not to run behind politicians seeking government jobs, and instead become self-sufficient by starting own business under the Mudra scheme.

“The youth here run after political parties for several years to get a government job and waste the vital time of their life, had the same youth instead of running after parties set up a paan shop he would have by now had a bank balance of Rs 5 lakhs", Deb said while addressing a seminar organised by Tripura Veterinary Council.

Deb also advised graduates to rear a cow instead of remaining unemployed. “Every household must rear a cow. Here milk sells for Rs 50 a litre. Had a graduate who has been searching for employment in the last 10 years reared a cow, then their bank balance would have been Rs 10 lakh by now,” he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Deb's advice to the unemployment youth brought to the memory the comments made by Prime Minister Modi about job generation. The PM had said in January that the government had emphasised self-employment and job creation, for which loans had been disbursed, and that selling pakodas, too, is a job.

Prime Minister's remark was made in reply to a question about his promise to generate jobs. The comments stirred protests from all around with opposition parties asking the government to recognise "begging" also as a job.

Biplab Deb himself is in news for all the wrong reasons ever since he has taken charge as Chief Minister of Tripura. Recenlty he had made critical comments about actress Diana Hayden. Before that he had claimed existance of Internet during Mahabharata time.
