Lucknow: Two days after senior Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav said Chandan Gupta was killed by Hindus and not Muslims, a state government official said "bhagwa" killed the Hindu man in Kasganj, and not the people from other community.

Chandan Gupta was reportedly killed in firing from both the sides in Kasganj when clashes between Hindus and Muslims erupted in the town on Republic Day.

"So, this was the Tiranga rally of Kasganj. There is nothing new here. On the day of Ambedkar Jayanti too, a similar rally was taken out through Saharanpur’s Sadak Dudhli, where Ambedkar was missing or, let’s say, immersed in the saffron colour.

"This is what happened in Kasganj. Tricolour remained absent and saffron flag was on top. The youth who died was not killed by any other community, but by saffron, taking shelter of the Tricolour", Rashme Varun, Deputy Director (Statistics), Saharanpur division, said in a Facebook post in Hindi, according to to The Sunday Express.

"What is not being told here is that instead of the Tricolour being put on the statue or photo of martyr Abdul Hameed, force was used to participate in this so-called Tiranga rally, and in the end, the colour red overpowered the colours of saffron, white and green", she said in her post.

Rashme Varun later removed the post from her Facebook page but reiterated that it couldn’t be established how Chandan Gupta, who died in Kasganj, had been killed.

“I want to explain that in the crowd, when firing was going on, bullet fired by anybody could have hit the youth who died,” she told the newspaper.

Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Ram Gopal Yadav had on Friday while speaking to reporters outside the parliament had claimed that Chandan Gupta was killed by Hindus but Muslims are blamed and arrested for the murder.

"Maar kaun reha hai? Ilzam kis par lag reha hai? Hindu ne maara Hindu ko, aur Musalman ke uper maarma ka ilzam rakh diya.. (Someone else is actually killing while the blame is put on others. A Hindu killed another Hindu and a Muslim was blamed.)", Yadav said while talking to reporters outside parliament on Friday.

"Jin logon ne waqai goli chalai, aur jo waqai qusoorwar hai.. in sab baton ka video aa chuka hai... sab kuch samne hai. uske bawajood Musalmano par ilzam lagaya ja reha hai aur unhi ko giraftar kya ja reha hai (There are videos available to prove who were the people involved in the shooting. Instead of this Muslims are blamed and arrested)", he added.

Communal violence in Kasganj near Etah in Uttar Pradesh erupted on Republic Day. Local Muslims were celebrating Republic Day at Shaheed Abdul Hameed Chowk when VHP and ABVP activists holding saffron flags came on bike. They were not only shouting slogans against Pakistan but were also asking the Muslims to go to Pakistan.

Rejecting the claim by some BJP leaders and a section of media that Muslims stopped the VHP and ABVP activists from hoisting the India tricolor, reports said it was actually the latter who disrupted the Republic Day celebration organised by the local Muslims and tried to hoist saffron flags instead of the Indian Tiranga.

Earlier, District Magistrate of Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly RV Singh had also expressed concern over the processions by communal forces in Muslim dominated areas and raising slogans against Pakistan to disturb peace and harmony.

Ajab riwaj ban gaya hai. Muslim mohallo main julus le jao aur Pakistan murdabad ke nare lagao. Kyun bhai woh Pakistani hain kya? (A strange has started of late. Take out procession in Muslim domianted areas and raise slogans against Pakistan. Why, are they (Muslims) Pakistanis?)” R Vikram Singh wrote in a Facebook post which was also removed later on.
