Mumbai: Maharashtra State Election Commissioner J S Saharia on Thursday said polling for the Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation (AMC), also known as Ahmednagar Mahanagar Palika, 2018 election will be held on Sunday December 09, 2018.
Along with Ahmednagar, polling will also be held on Sunday December 09, 2018 to elect the new body of Dhule Municipal Corporation (DMC), Saharia said.
The term of the two civic bodies ends on December 29.
The filing of nominations will start from November 13, the last date of withdrawal is November 26 while the counting of votes will take place on December 10. The result of the election will also be declared on the same day.
The Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation (AMC), has a population of 3,46,755 and total number of voters are 2,56,719.
In 2013, Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation (AMC) election was held on Decemver 15, 2013 for 34 wards to elect a total of 68 councillors – two each from a ward.
A total of 369 candidates belonging to various parties including the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Shiv Sena, Bhartia Janata Party (BJP) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) contested the 2013 Ahmednagar Mahanagar Palika elections. Fifty percent of the total seats was reserved for women candidates.
As per the Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation 2013 results, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had won 16 seats in the 68-member house. Shiv-Sena had also won 16 seats in the 2013 election wheras its alliance partner BJP had won 10 seats.
The Congress party on the other hand had won 11 seats. The independents too had won on 11 seats in the 2013 Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation polls. A total of seven Muslims had also won the 2013 elections. The polling percentage in 2013 was a record 73%.
