Hyderabad: Nampally Police Station in Hyderabad on Wednesday booked 10 and arrested 02 Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) workers for allegedly assaulting a woman supporter of Congress.
According to a complaint lodged with the Nampally Police Station, Congress candidate from the area, Feroz Khan, said about 10-12 MIM workers on Wednesday barged into the house of Ayesha Farheen and started beating her.
"The MIM workers also attacked her husband Ashfaq Iqbal", Khan said adding that Iqbal has sustained injuries and has been admitted in a local hospital.
"On the complaint of Ayesha Farheen, a case has been registered against MIM workers under section 354 of IPC", ACP of Saifabad, C. Venugopal Reddy told the media.
Feroz Khan said two of the attackers have been identified as Majju and Tillu and have been arrested by police. Ayesha is sure of identifying others if they are arrested, Feroz Khan said.
Khan said Asaduddin Owaisi's men attacked Ayesha and her husband because they were campaiging for the Congress.
"The MIM workers were upset and asked why the family is supporting the Congress candidate in a Majlis bastion", Khan said.
In a video posted by A18 Telangana News, Congress supporter Ayesha Farheen can be seen profusely crying and appealing for justice.
The MIM workers attacked the woman supporter of Congress amidst the reports that the party president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi is holding "women only" meetings in various parts of the city to reach out to them ahead of Telangana assembly elections.
AIMIM had won 07 seats in the last state elections. This time the party has fielded 08 candidate and is trying to increase its tally by 01. Political observers however feel that it will be difficult for the MIM to maintain it's earlier tally.
State election in Telangana is scheduled to be held on December 07, 2018.
