New Delhi: The SCADA and Smart Grid Technologies Lab of the Department of Electrical Engineering, F/o Engineering and Technologies, Jamia Millia Islamia is now equipped with Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS), to support its research and training activities in the area of smart grid.
RTDS has been procured under DST FIST Grant. The prestigious DST FIST project was awarded to the Department of Electrical Engineering in 2015-16.
A one week training programme was organized on “Real Time Digital Simulator during 24th-28th September 2018, which was conducted by the RTDS training experts Dr. Bruce Rigby of Etalumi Se Ltd, South Africa and Dr. Dinesh Gurusinghe of RTDS Technologies Inc Canada.
The Inauguration function, held on 24th September 2018, was attended by M.Tech. students, Ph.D. scholars and faculty members from institutions like Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) New Delhi, GBU GBN, Amity NOIDA, YMCA Faridabad, TIET Patiala and corporate like GE T&D India Ltd. NOIDA.
"The efforts of Dr Ikbal Ali in bringing FIST project to the Electrical Engg. department and in creation of RTDS capability for smart grid research at SCADA & Smart Grid Technologies Lab was appreciated by the dignitaries from academia as well as industries during the inauguration function and was termed as need of the time to be counted among leaders for smart grid research and training", the Jamia Millia Islamia said.
Addressing the programme, Prof. Z. A. Jaffery, Head of Department of Electrical Engg JMI, said, "Addition of real time digital simulation capability will prove to be the great impetus for promoting smart grid related research and training activities in the department and help in bringing more laurels to the department."
