EVM Hacking London

London: Syed Shuja, who claims to be a Cyber Expert based in the United States, said the 2014 General Elections were rigged. Shuja, who said he was part of the team that designed the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in India, also claimed senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde was murdered because he knew the entire hacking game plan.

While addressing a press conference in London via Skype, Syed Shuja also claimed that Tanzil Ahmed, the NIA officer investigating Munde's death, was planning to file an FIR noting he had been murdered, but was himself killed.

Shuja said that he fled India and sought asylum in the US because he felt threatened here. Shuja said he sought political asylum in the US when asked about the circumstances of him leaving India.

Syed Shuja also demonstrated who the EVMs were hacked during the press meet organised by Indian Journalists Association (Europe) in association with Foreign Press Association, London.

Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal was present at the press conference. Addressing the press, Shuja said invitation for today's meet was extended to the Election Commission of India and all political parties of India. "None except the Congress accepted the invitation", he said.

Shuja said the EVMs were hacked using the low frequency signal provided by the Reliance Communication.

“Reliance Communications have the network to transmit the data, BJP is the beneficiary. There are nine places in India where there are facilities. The employees don’t know that they are tampering with EVMs. They think they are doing data entry,” Shuja alleged.

Syed Shuja said that the Congress lost 201 seats in 2014 due to EVM tampering. He said in 2015 Delhi state electionsthey had managed to intercept the transmission, resulting in the AAP winning 67 out of 70 seats. Otherwise the BJP would have swept, he claimed.

He also said the BJP could have won elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh if he and his team hadn't intercepted the BJP's "attempts".

Syed Shuja also said he could share the evidence of EVM hacking with journalists. "I had shared the evidence with the authorities in the United States while seeking asylum. The same could be shared with the media", he said.

The BJP had won 282 seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections whereas Congress had been reduced to just 44 seats in the house of 543 members.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India responding to the claims of EVM tampering said that their machines are foolproof and the commission is currently analysing what legal action to be taken regarding the press conference in London.

“It has come to our notice that an event claiming to demonstrate EVMs used by ECI can be tampered with, has been organised in London. ECI has been wary of becoming a party to this motivated slugfest and stands by empirical facts about foolproof nature of ECI EVMs,” EC said.

“These EVMs are manufactured in Bharat Electronics Ltd & Electronics Corporation of India Ltd under very strict supervisory and security conditions. There are rigorous Standard Operating Procedures observed under supervision of a Committee of technical experts constituted in 2010,” the EC added

“It is being separately examined as to what legal action can and should be taken in the matter,” the Commission said in a statement.
