Bought for 60 pounds, car now to fetch 500,000 pounds

Saturday July 02, 2011 06:36:13 PM, IANS

London: A beaten-up car in Britain that was bought for barely 60 pounds is likely to be sold for 500,000 pounds.

Jack Perkins bought the 1925 Bugatti back in 1950 for 60 pounds, which is about 1,300 pounds in today's money.

It had been kept in an aerodrome in Nottingham where staff took it out for joy rides, The Sun reported.

He decided to restore it, for which he sourced a 2.3 litre original engine and got other parts straight from Bugatti.

Jack, who raced the car regularly, died in 1992.

His widow displayed it at the Haynes Motor Museum in Somerset.

The family has now decided to sell it.

"This example represents an exciting opportunity to acquire a Type 35 in the model's ultimate, supercharged configuration," spokesperson of Bonhams, an auctioneer, was quoted as saying.
