Mumbai: Haj Committee of India, the apex body controlling entire Hajj process in the country, will start receiving online applications for Hajj 2016 from aspiring candidates January 14, 2016 onwards, it is officially announced on Friday.
“The process of application for Haj-2016 through Haj Committee of India (HCoI) will commence on January 14, 2016”, Haj Committee of India said in a statement.
Last date of application is February 08, 2016.
Booklets containing Guidelines and Haj Application Forms (HAF) can be downloaded from the Haj Committee of India website: "hajcommittee.gov.in".
“Booklets and Guidelines for Haj 2016 in seven different languages can also be obtained free of cost from the Hajj Committee head office in Mumbai or State/Union Territory Haj Committees (SHCs)”, the statement said.
"The applicant must have a machine readable valid Indian International Passport issued on or before February 08, 2016 - the last date of receiving the application form. The passport should be valid at least up to March 10, 2017", the statement added.
The Haj Committee of India also said that the distribution of state-wise quota this year will be based on 2011 census. Till 2015, the quota distribution was done as per the 2001 census. The Hajj Committee of India decides total number of hajis going for hajj from different Indian states based on the population of Muslims.
Out of the total about 01,50,000 hajis who go to Makkah for hajj from India, about 01,30,000 pilgrims go through the Haj Committee of India. Remaining pilgrims opt for Private Tour Operators (PTOs) to perform the annual ritual.
Muslims from across the world gather in Makkah, Saudi Arbia once in a year in the month of Dhul Hijja to perform Hajj.
