About 4.7 lakh from India and abroad have applied for the NEET-2 exam scheduled to be held on July 24, 2016. Out of them, about 70% are re-appearing for the test after surrendering their NEET Phase I scores.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the medical entrance examination in India, for students who wish to study any graduate medical course (MBBS), dental course (BDS) or postgraduate course (MD / MS) in government or private medical colleges across the country.
The All India Pre Medical Test also known as AIPMT was conducted on May 1, 2016, and was considered as NEET Phase 1.
NEET Phase 1 was held amid uncertainty when issue was under consideration of the Supreme Court. When the apex court finally decided the issue, it allowed NEET-1 candidates also to avail another chance to appear in NEET-2, considering the fact that many could not appear in first exam or many did not perform well in the wake of uncertainty.
The CBSE had earlier given the candidates one time chance for correction. The chance, which started on June 27, got over on June 29, 2016.
There was also demand from students, parents and teachers to release Answer Key of NEET - I and extend the date of registration for NEET -2, which ended on June 25, till June 30. The CBSE however declined to honour these demands.
