Ranchi:
In another incident of targeted violence against Muslims in Jharkhand, Mohammed Shakir, a Muslim working in the Kathara town of Bokaro district was stripped naked and brutally beaten by a mob which accused him of eve teasing a Hindu girl. Shakir who was rushed to a local hosiptal is said to be critical.

Video footage widely shared on social media shows Mohammad Shakir being attacked and assaulted by the mob while a number of people stood there watching the whole incident, refusing to take action against mob lynching.

The attackers stripped Shakir naked, pushed him to the ground, groped him and beat him with sticks.

One person has been arrested, while a few others have been identified from the video. The investigation is going on. Shakir is admitted in the hospital and his condition is serious.

"The boy was attacked because he was found with a Hindu girl. The police reached the spot as soon as we were informed, but the time we got there, he was already badly injured. We rescued him from the crowd and admitted him to a hospital", Bokaro's Deputy Superintendent of Police, Poonam Minz, said while talking to The Logical Indian.

Shakir's relatives claimed that the attack was a hate crime as the attackers belonged to the Hindu community.

India witnessed widespread protests in the last few months against targeted attacks on Muslims and Dalits. Last week more than hundred army veterans had expressed concern over rising intolerance against minorities and backwards.

The protests prompted Prime Minister Modi to issue an appeal against such violence. The opposition however said prime minister's appeals were not enough and he should instead order action against the culprits.
