Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate from Aalapur assembly constituency Chabdrashekhar Kanaujiya died after a massive heart attack this morning. He was 38.
Chabdrashekhar Kanaujiya was addressing a rally in Sabitpur Dewada area of Aalapur seat today afternoon when he complained of uneasiness.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was declared brought dead, local media reported.
Election Commission can suspend the elections of Aalapur Assembly seat of Ambedkarnagar district after Samajwadi Party candidate's death.
"We have sought a report from the District Magistrate after which we would seek direction from the Election Commission for further action", UP Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) T Venketesh said.
Aalapur assembly constituency was scheduled for the election in the 5th phase of Uttar Pradesh polls on Februray 27, 2017.
Aalapur assembly seat is currently represented by Bhim Prasad Sonkar of Samajwadi Party. The SP however fielded Chabdrashekhar Kanaujiya in this election.
