Hyderabad: A case has been registered against a All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA here and others after a woman, who claims to be a local TRS worker, accused them of assaulting her, police said today.
The woman had yesterday filed a complaint with the Banjara Hills police station against All-India Majilis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Kausar Mohiuddin and his followers for allegedly threatening and attacking her, said Inspector K Srinivas, according to PTI.
The woman said when she intervened in a verbal altercation between one local youth Shahrukh and Karwan MLA's brother, the legislator and his associates attacked her, police said.
Following the complaint a case was yesterday registered under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) against the MLA and others, Srivivas added.
As the AIMIM workers lodged a counter complaint, police registered a case against Shahrukh and others for allegedly hitting the MLA's brother, added the officer.
Filing of the above case and counter cases came three days after a reported split in AIMIM during the election to the chairperson of the Tandur municipality on March 4 saw the Congress candidate winning and the TRS losing the election.
According to the media reports, chairperson Kotrika Vijayalakshmi and vice-chairman Sajid Ali had resigned as part of an understanding between TRS and AIMIM to share the chairpersonship during the five-year term as both parties had 10 councillors each in the 31-member council.
It was agreed that TRS candidate Vijayalakshmi would serve as chairperson for the first two and a half years and AIMIM would take the post in the second half.
As soon as the proceedings were initiated by Jha, the Minister asked the AIMIM to name its candidate but one of its members, Asif, who was later to become vice-chairman, shocked the participants saying the party was not putting up a candidate for chairperson, according to The Hindu.
Asif led a breakaway group of AIMIM comprising six councillors even as the Minister intervened to advise them that the understanding between the TRS and AIMIM must be honoured. But, with the six councillors, it fell on deaf ears .
The TDP with two members and the lone councillor of the BJP remained silent to the goings-on but the Congress announced the candidature of Sunitha Sampath which was supported by six councillors of the AIMIM.
