Latest trends available at 09:45 am showed Asadudidn Owaisi led Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leading in 04 assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh. The AIMIM is contesting Uttar Pradesh elections for the first time.

The 04 assembly constituncies where the AIMIM candidates are leading include Sambhal, Moradabad Cant., Khaleelabad and Menhdhawal.

Haji Tafseer Khan is AIMIM candidate in Khalilabad whereas Ziaur Rehman is party candidate in Sambhal and Tabish Khan is contesting as AIMIM candidate in Menhdhawal.

The AIMIM is contesting on a total of 38 seats in Uttar Pradesh.

Trends also showed Mukthar Ansari of Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) is leading in Maunath Bhanjan and Abbas Ansari, who is also contesting the election as BSP candidate is leading in Ghosi.

According to the trends Azam Khan of Samajwadi Party is trailing in Rampur. Also facing defeat is Imran Masoos, the firebrand leader of Congress.

These are just ternds. Counting of votes in the two constituencies are still underway.

Earlier, counting votes began at 75 centres across 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh amid tight security. The process began with counting of postal votes.

Latest trends available at 09:30 am showed Mukthar Ansari of Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) is leading in Maunath Bhanjan.

The trends also showed that Abbas Ansari, who is also contesting the election as BSP candidate is leading in Ghosi.

The trends of the 182 of the total 403 seats available at 09:00 am showed that the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is performing as per the predictions of Exit Polls. Trends showed the party leading in 101 seats.

Trends at 09:00 am also showed the Smajwadi Party/Congress combine ahead in 45 seats and Mayawati's BSP leading in 31 seats. Others are ahead in 07 seats.

Trends also showed that the BSP is leading on 10 assembly seats.

Counting of votes in Uttar Pradesh, where Samajwadi Party (SP) is ruling since last five years with Akhilesh Singh Yadav as Chief Minister, started today at 08:00 am.

As per the Election Commission guidelines, the process began with counting of postal votes.

The trends and results will soon start coming as the first round of voting is expected to be completed by about 08:30 am.

Counting of votes for the high- stakes assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and four other Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur states will start today i.e. Saturday March 11, 2017 exactky at 08:00 am.

According to the election commission, the process in Uttar Pradesh will begin with counting of postal votes and trends are expected to be available by 09:00 am. By 12 noon, a final picture could emerge on who would be the major players in the state.

The counting of vote will take place at 75 centres in Uttar Pradesh. The entire process will be completed by late evening, the state election commission said.

According to Election Commission guidelines, half-an-hour after the postal ballots are counted, the process of counting of EVM votes begins.

The 'ballot unit' is switched on in the presence of senior poll officials and counting agents of candidates and the result command keyed in to get the results per machine.

Where a paper trail audit or 'voter-verified paper audit trail' (VVPAT) has been used, the counting agent can call for a count of the paper slips in the drop box attached to the voting machine, but a final count is taken by the returning officer.

Once the results are declared, the names of the winning candidates will find mention in the gazette. The gazette notification will initiate the process to form the next legislative assemblies in the states.

Exit polls by various news channel released on Thursday had predicted a hung assembly in Uttar Pradesh. While most of the Exit Polls have given the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) a lead and pridcted that it will emerge as the single largest party, some including BBC News in their Exit Polls have predicted Samajwadi Party - Congress alliance ending as the single largest party.

Almost all the Exit Polls have put Mayawati's Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) at third position.

The other important player in Uttar Pradesh are Ajit Singh's RLD and Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

While the RLD has fielded candidates in Jat dominated Western Uttar Pradesh, AIMIM is contesting election in 38 assembly areas mostly dominated by Muslims.

The BJP, Congress, Samajwdai Party (SP) and Bahujan Samawajdi Party (BSP) all the leading players in Uttar Pradesh are exuding confidence of their victory and are upbeat about forming the next government.

If Chief Minister Akhilesh Singh Yadav who is heading the SP government in Uttar Pradesh is confident of retaining power, BSP Chief Mayawati is also eyeing a comeback in the state after five years.

The BJP is trying all its best to stake its claim in Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Modi led the BJP campaign during the 7-phase election and is hoping to win as many seats as possible in the key state where it had won 73 of the total 80 seats in the 2014 General elections.

In 2012 elections, Samajwadi Party (SP) won 224 of the total 403 seats and formed the government. BSP was second with 80 seats, BJP was next with 47 seats and Congress and others had respectively won 28 and 24 seats.
