Lucknow: Waseem Rizvi, controversial Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Pradesh, in a letter issued to Madaris, schools and colleges running on Waqf lands to hoist Indian Tricolor on August 15 and also made it compulsory to chant the slogan 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'.
August 15 is celebrated in India as Independence Day and like other schools and colleges, Madaris -whether running on waqf or private lands, hoist Indian Tricolor and sing the National Anthem. They also organise special cultural programs and competition to suit the occasion.
However, Waseem Rizvi seems to be unaware of this common fact.
"It is compulsory for all schools, colleges and madaris running on Waqf lands to celebrate Independence Day on August 15 bu hoisting Indian Tricolour and singing the National Anthem", Rizvi said in the letter issued to Madaris on August 09.
"It is also compuslory to chant "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" - the slogan symbolising Independence of the country", he said.
"Strict action will be taken against those not following the directives", he added.
Madrasa managements responding to Waseem Rizvi's unwanted diktat reminded him that the Madaris are already celebrating August 15 as Independence Day and it is none of his business to teach them patriotism.
"We already hoist the Indian Tricolour and sing the National Anthem every year on Independence Day and Republic Day. I think no one should teach us patriotism like this. This is not right," Maulana Sufiyan Nizami said while talking to media.
