
Malegaon: Over 5000 people including women and children in Malegaon – one of the largest textile hubs of India, on Sunday ran for peace and unity in the country. The runners participating in the ‘Malegaon Marathon 2018’ were wearing specially designed t-shirts which had message of peace and unity, and a tag line ‘Aao ab duad le.. Dil ko Dil se jod le’ printed over it.
Top officers of the district including District Collector B Radhakrishnan (IAS), Nashik SP (Rural) Sanjay Darade, SDM Malegaon and Prant Officer Ajay More, ASP Malegaon Harsh Poddar, DYSP Malegaon Gajanan Rajmane, Tehsildar Malegaon Jyoti Deore and other officers led the “Malegaon Marathon 2018” which was jointly organized by Nashik Police and Malegaon Aman Committee (Malegaon Peace Committee). Local MLA and a minister in Maharashtra government Dada Bhuse also ran along with the ‘athletes’.
Participants ran 03, 05 and 10 kms based on their age group. The Malegaon Police had earlier given a call to the people of Malegaon to register their names and participate in the Malegaon Marathon 2018. A day before the event, all participants were given t-shirts with the message of peace and harmony printed over them. Hoardings were put up in different parts of the city and campaigns were run on different social media platforms to create awareness.

The Malegaon Marathon 2018 was scheduled to start at 06:00 in the morning Sunday from Malegaon Eidgah Ground – also known as Police Parade Ground. It however started 15 minute behind the scheduled time, though a large number of people were already at the starting point by 05:30 am.
“The marathon started at around 06:10 am. I saw a huge number of people present atMalegaon Eidgah Ground when I reached there at about 05:45 in the morning. There were people and schoolchildren on both sides of the road to greet the athletes who were running for the noble cause”, Azeez Ejaz, a teacher of Mother Aisha School, said while talking to ummid.com.
M Muzaffar Malik, Govinda Hanuman Sharma, Deepak Prabhakar Wagh, Vedant Prithviraj Shirsath and Manav Prashnat Sonwane respectively won 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th prizes in the male category of 03 km run. Nandini Dayaram Pawar, Dipti Mukund Chindade, Rutika Mandale and Jayashree Vinod Devkar bagged the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th prizes in the female category of 03 kms.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners of 5 kms in the male category are Malhar Prashnat Pawar, Shreyas Dattatray Dixit and Aman Ali Mohd Akhar and in the female category the winners are Roshni Keshav Ahire, Priksha Jaju and Durga Shantaram Pagare.
The winner of 1st prize of 10 kms in the male category is Himanshu Ramesh Borse, winner of 2nd prize is Dev Narendra Pathare and winner of the 3rd prize is Amol Mahale. The 1st, 2ndand 3rd prizes of 10 kms in the female category went to Yogita Sonu Wagh, Shraddha Nardu Pawar and Sarvadhya Nandu Pawar.
All winners were awarded a medal and citation in a special ceremony organized after the marathon ended at Malegaon Eidgah Ground.
