So you are a parent now and it is one of the most rewarding experiences in life. Each baby is born with different characteristic traits and you have to keep up with changing needs of the baby.

Here are the basics of baby care that every new parent should know about.

1. Baby Bath

Care for a newborn is quite challenging, especially when it comes to bathing the baby. How warm should the temperature be, whether to use soap or not, are the questions that you will find asking yourself.

For the first few weeks, avoid any kind of soap or shampoo. Sponge bath is a good alternative until the umbilical cord stump falls away.

Check the temperature of bathing area by wrists as this is area is quite sensitive to heat compared to other parts of the hands.

2. Baby Feeding

Until the age of 6 months babies are only fed breast milk and after that their dietary needs expands.

You can start giving complimentary food to the baby including solids, while breast milk still remains a major part of their nutrition, at least upto 12 months.

3. Bonding with your baby

Bonding with your child is equally important when it comes to baby care. Playtime with your baby not only brings out cute laughter but is also essential for a baby’s physical well-being and emotional development.

4. Sleep Time

Coaxing your baby to sleep might be quite difficult. Adequate sleep is very essential for the development of your child.

There are many settling techniques that help settle your baby for sleep. Each baby is different and has different activity level so a technique that may work for one baby may not work for the other.

You can learn about settling techniques from family and friends or can also take the help of your baby's pediatrician.

5. Skincare

The baby's skin is very soft and sensitive. It is prone to getting irritated. When choosing skincare product for your baby, make sure it is a mild one. You can also ask your doctor to recommend suitable skincare products.

6. Vaccination

Your baby's health is of utmost importance. You will want to keep your baby healthy. Vaccination keeps your baby protected from harmful diseases and is an essential tool to maintain your baby's health.

Baby care is of utmost importance in the initial few years of your baby's life. Baby care during winter can be quite a tough job but once you get the hang of it, you can keep your baby healthy and aid rapid development.
