Gandhinagar: Reporting new 626 coronavirus cases, the highest number of positive cases so far, on Monday, Gujarat saw its total tally jump over the 32,000 mark to reach 32,023.
Monday was the third day in a row where more than 600 corona cases were detected. And prior to that, for consecutive three days, the state had registered around 580 cases daily. With an average 600 cases daily, the state has registered around 3,600 new cases in just last six days.
Of the new cases, Ahmedabad, which has seen its daily number of cases decreasing from around 300 plus daily to now 200 plus, accounted for 236.
On the other hand, a higher number of cases are springing up in Surat and in other cities and towns. On Monday, Surat had the highest number of positive cases detected so far, at 206.
Surat was followed by Vadodara, which saw 50 new cases.
Patan saw 20 cases, Rajkot 13, Anand 11, Mahesana and Amreli 10 each, Surendranagar nine, Bharuch eight, Kheda seven, Jamnagar and Aravalli six each, Bhavnagar five, Panchmahals, Gir-Somnath and Junagadh three each, Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Navsari and Gandhinagar two each and Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Botad and Valsad with one positive case each. There were also eight cases from other states.
A positive development has been that, for the past few days, the number of deaths, which had been over 30 for almost the entire June, has now come down under 20. After the 18 deaths each over the previous four days, Monday saw 19 fatalities. Of these, Ahmedabad had nine, followed by Surat with four. Two from Surendranagar succumbed to the virus on Monday, while a patient each from Banaskantha, Rajkot, Kheda and Amreli also died.
With this, the death toll of the state has climbed to 1,828.
Ahmedabad accounts for 1,435 of these, followed by Surat with 155, and Vadodara with 49. There also have been 29 deaths in Gandhinagar, 16 in Aravalli, 15 each in Panchmahals and Patan, 13 each in Bhavnagar and Anand and 11 have died in Mehsana.
As many as 789 people, out of the total, have succumbed to the virus during 29 days of June. Gujarat has one of the highest mortality rate for corona in the country, at 5.70 per cent.
Of the total cases, Ahmedabad leads with 20,736, followed by Surat with 4,630, Vadodara with 2,220, Gandhinagar with 638, Mehsana with 269, Rajkot with 263, Bhavnagar with 252, Bharuch with 210, Anand with 207, Aravali with 202, Patan and Jamnagar with 195 each, Banaskantha with 177, Panchmahals and Sabarkantha with 170 each, Kheda with 152, Kutch with 150, Surendranagar with 138, Mahisagar with 135 and Valsad with 130.
On Monday, the health authorities carried out 4,433 RT-PCR tests, taking the total to 3,67,739 RT-PCR tests in Gujarat. A total of 440 patients were discharged, taking the total to 23,248.
There are 6,947 active cases, out of which the condition of 6,884 is stable, whereas 63 critical patients are still on ventilator.
Right now, there are 2,39,759 people quarantined - 2,36,384 at home and 3,375 in government facilities.
