Makkah Quran Competition 2026 Preliminary Round Starts
The Preliminary Qualifying Round of the 46th King Abdulaziz International Competition for Memorizing, Reciting and Interpreting the Holy Quran began Friday August 07, 2026 at the competition venue in Makkah al Mukarramah.

The Makkah Quran Competition is organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance.
During the preliminary qualifiers which precede the final rounds, the Panel of Judges listened to Quran recitations by male and female contestants to determine those advancing to the final rounds to be held at the Grand Mosque or Masjid al Haram in Makkah.
The assessment of the contestant was made in accordance with the highest standards of accuracy and transparency and under the supervision of a group of international male and female judges specializing in the Holy Quran readings and recitation rules.

Five Categories
The current edition of Makkah Quran Contest brings together 334 male and female contestants representing 133 countries, competing in 5 categories:
- Memorizing the entire Holy Quran according to seven recitations
- Memorizing the entire Holy Quran along with interpreting its vocabulary
- Memorizing the entire Holy Quran
- Memorizing 15 consecutive parts
- Memorizing five consecutive parts

Makkah Quran Competition Prize Money
The King Abdulaziz International Competition for Memorizing, Reciting and Interpreting the Holy Quran is one of the world's largest Quran competitions, with total prizes exceeding SAR10 million, reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's continued commitment to serving the Holy Quran, encouraging its memorization, and promoting its global mission of spreading Quranic values and teachings.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance continues to mobilize all its resources to ensure the success of this international Quran competition by implementing an electronic judging and assessment system, providing an integrated organizational environment to ensure fairness and accuracy in evaluating contestants, in addition to providing various services to participants.
Last year, the Makkah Quran Contest had ended with the final round held at the Grand Mosque in Makkah on August 20, 2025.
