Bethlehem: The Israeli occupation authorities on Tuesday notified of halting the construction of a mosque in Fiteh area, southeast of Bethlehem in the West Bank, Palestinian sources said.
Sources noted that the Israeli forces stormed Fiteh area, located between the towns of Tekoa and al-Masirah, and notified of the demolition of the Martyr Ihab Habib Mosque, under the pretext of construction without a permit.
The same source pointed out that the mosque was built three years ago, on a land belonging to the Palestinian endowments.
Israel had earlier mooted a bill that would prohibit mosques from using loudspeakers to summon believers to prayers early in the morning.
The bill’s sponsor, Motti Yogev of the far-right Jewish Home party, said, “The legislation is necessary to avoid daily disturbance to the lives of hundreds of thousands of non-Muslim Israelis.”
