Hyderabad: Senior Telugu Desham Party (TDP) leader Somireddy Chandrasekhar Reddy on Saturday demanded that Hyderabad be made second capital of the country.
Addressing a press conference at the NTR Trust Bhavan here, Somireddy said that the idea of making Hyderabad the second capital of the country was originally mooted by Dr B R Ambedkar.
He said that all leaders, across party lines, should make a representation to President of India Pranab Mukherjee during his stay in Hyderabad itself to press for this demand.
However, Somireddy said that the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh would cause immense damage to both the regions.
He also sought the intervention of the President in addressing the concerns of people from Seemandhra region with regard to bifurcation.
The union cabinet while approving the bill to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh and form Telangana, has also proposed to make Hyderabad as joint capital of the two states.
