Aurangabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday lambasted the Congress led government at the centre and in Maharashtra, and urged the Muslims to stand up for their rights.
“The Muslims are backward because of the cleverly hatched conspiracies designed by the Congress to deny the Muslims of their right to respectfully live in this country”, he said while addressing thousands of people who thronged the Aam Khaas Maidan to listen to the AIMIM leader.
The rally was organised by Muslim Reservation Front (MRF). Janata Dal (Secular) leader Nehal Ahmed, Awami Vikas Party leader Shamsher Khan Pathan, MRF founder Ajmal Khan and others were also seen sitting on the dais.
Stating that the Congress was responsible for denying the reservation to the Muslims in education and government jobs, Owais urged the Muslims to fight till their demands were met. “Its hight time we start this fight, and continue it till our demands are met. If the Congress is not ready to give us reservation, it should not ask for votes. No reservation, no vote”, he said amid thundering applause.
Questioning the implementation of government schemes in Maharashtra, Owais said, “About 6.8% of the total Muslim population in Maharashtra have bank accounts. But barely 02% could take the bank loan that too after much difficulties”, he said.
He said that National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC) disbursed around 350 crore rupees under its Micro-Credit scheme. But, the Muslims in Maharashtra could not benefit from this huge fund. “The state government’s record is very poor on this. If not, it should show the record how many Muslims are benefited from this 350 crore rupees”, he challenged.
He also alleged that the Muslims were not given the term loan by National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC). “An estimated 3311 people from other minorities have been sanctioned term loan by NMDFC. But, when poor weavers of Malegaon and Bhiwandi apply for loan, their applications are rejected”, he said.
He also said that the housing schemes implemented in the four minority-concentrated districts Aurangabad, Hingoli, Prabhani and Nanded was incomplete and lacks honest implementation. “The target was to provide housing for 11,670 families of these four districts. But only 3,265 homes were built. Out of them just 20% homes were given to Muslims”, he said quoting from Minority Development Department’s report.
He also expressed concern over declining number of Muslims in the police force. “It is a matter of concern that among a strong 1,80,000 police force in Maharashtra, only 1945 are Muslims”, he said.
This was Owaisi's maiden visit to this historic city of political significance in Marathwada region. A couple of months before, the state government had banned him from addressing a scheduled rally in the city.
