'Nizam of Hyderabad led life simpler than Mahatma Gandhi'
Telangana has always been the seat of communal harmony, communal riots started only after people of Andhra reached Telangana region, says Prof Bhukia

Noted historian Prof. B. Bhukia on Sunday praised the erstwhile ruler of Hyderabad stating that he was nationalist, secular, promoted democratic form of government, and led a life simpler than even Mahatma Gandhi.

"Nizam of Hyderabad led a simpler life than Mahatma Gandhi. If an example can be quoted of a Nationalist leader, it is the Nizam of Hyderabad. He used only domestically produced articles. He promoted democratic form of Govt. and ruled the hearts", newspaper Siasat quoted him as saysing.

Prof. B. Bhukia was addressing a function held at press club, Bhasher Bagh, Hyderabad on Sunday.

He further said whatever venom is being spread against the Nizam of Hyderabad is part of a conspiracy of the British to divide and rule.

"People of Telangana did not launched any movement against the Nizam but they agitated against the Jagirdars and most of the Jagirdars were the Hindus. The study of history of the Deccan that there is no cultural similarity between Telangana and Seema Andhra regions. There has not been any concept of Telugu Civilization", he said.

"Telangana has always been the seat of communal harmony. Communal Riots started only after the people of Andhra reached Telangana region", he noted.

Dr. K. Srinivas, Mohammed Abdur Raheem Quraishi, T. Vivek, Captain L. Pandu Ranga Reddy, Nanak Singh Nashtar, Lateef Mohammed Khan, Dr. Mohammed Mateenuddin Quadri, K. Ramdas and others also addressed the gathering.

In his address Dr. K. Chiranjivee said that spreading venom against Nizam is not based on misunderstanding but it is part of a conspiracy. There is a need to fight against this conspiracy.

"Celebrations held on 17th September have no basis. The real merger of Hyderabad took place on 26th January 1950. Till that time Nizam was the ruler of Hyderabad", he said.

Dr. Chiranjivee further said that the people of Andhra attacked the people of Telangana region with their language and culture. They usurped the posts of Telangana region.

He also said that on 15th August Brahmins got power. Before this period Brahmins ruled only for a shorter period.

Dr. Cheranjeevi also said that police action against Hyderabad is part of an organized conspiracy. Mohammed Ali Jinnah died on 11th September. On the very next day, Sardar Patel sent the Indian Army to Hyderabad and it started sabotaging from 13th September.

"The conspiracy against the Nizam is not a new thing. Balgangadhar Tilak, Ariyans, Hindutva and Andhra leaders have been targeting the Nizam for quite some time", he said.

Captain L. Pandu Ranga Reddy while addressing the function said that a particular community is being targeted in the name of Razakar which is not appropriate.

"In fact the Andhra communist Razakars who were struggling against the Nizam were looters. In addition to this, there were Congress Razakar also who looted Umri Bank. Among the persons who looted Umri Bank was P.V. Narasimha Rao. Unfortunately he became the Prime Minister of India later", he said.

He further said that Nizam of Hyderabad financially supported Mahatma Gandhi in his freedom movement.

He applauded Akbaruddin Owaisi for defending the Nizam on the floor of Assembly.

In his Presidential address Abdur Raheem Quraishi said that the Nizam of Hyderabad had proposed to Govt. of India for conducting a referendum but Govt. of India did not accept it. Nizam of Hyderabad had full confidence on his subjects.

He hoped that Telangana State will be an exemplary State in maintaining communal harmony.
