Washington: Association of Indian Muslims of America, a renowned NGO based in Washington, on Monday appealed all Muslims to support and vote for the Aam Aadmi Party and said the association members will visit India during election time to campaign for the party which has recently formed the government in Delhi after historic victory.
"We, a non-profit NGO of Indian Muslims who live in US, enthusiastically share the views of AAP volunteers, and ask India's Muslim citizens and voters to support AAP with funds, volunteers and votes, as AAP prepares to participate in the upcoming parliamentary election", Kaleem Kawaja, Executive Director, Association of Indian Muslims of America, said in a statement sent to ummid.com.
He also said that several of our members in US who hold Indian passport are planning to visit India at election time to campaign for AAP and to raise funds for them in India.
"Even before the remarkable victory of the AAP party in the recent Delhi state election, a significant number of middleclass and educated Muslims in Delhi had enthusiastically responded to the call of this nascent party, to help it cleanse the political system and governance", he added.
"The reason that most of the Muslims being in the underprivileged segment of society, they suffer far more than others, when corruption and influence-peddling become rampant, as has happened in the last eight years of Congress party rule at the Center", he said.
Recently Jamat Islami Hind, a major nationwide social uplift NGO of Muslims in India, that advocates a secular polity and governance based on justice and fairplay, has endorsed AAP and has asked Muslims to vote for it in the coming parliamentary election.
"We are very optimistic that AAP will win a significant number of seats in the parliamentary election and thus force the other parties to change their tactics of using religion, caste, money-politics and vote-bank politics, that are seriously harming the Indian nation", he said.
"We are hopeful that in due course of time this positive change in India's polity will be of much help to the Muslims of India", he added.
