Dubai ruler's 33-year-old son Rashid bin Mohammed dies of heart attack

Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, son of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, died of a heart attack on Saturday morning.

Sheikh Rashid was the first son of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and his senior wife, Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum. He was an avid sportsman and horse racing enthusiast. His younger brother Sheikh Hamdan is Dubai’s crown prince.

The burial of late Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum will take place at Umm Hurair cemetery in Bur Dubai this evening, following the funeral prayers at the Zabeel Mosque. "May Almighty Allah rest his soul in paradise."

Al Dewan, Dubai Ruler’s Court, has declared three days mourning in Dubai, beginning today.

Flags will fly half-mast at all government institutions in the emirate.

The Dubai Ruler's Court has also announced that funeral prayers for late Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum will be offered today after Maghrib (sunset) prayers at Zabeel Mosque.

Later on, burial will take place at Umm Hurair cemetery at Al Fahidi in Bur Dubai.

The Court has also announced that work in government departments and institutions in the emirate of Dubai will continue as normal during the three-day mourning period.

The death of the young prince has sent shock waves across the United Arab Emirate (UAE) and other Arab states. Condolence messages are pouring in from the UAE rulers and other neighboring Gulf states.

UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan while mourning the death of Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, expressed his heartfelt condolences and solace to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, praying to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in Paradise, and bestow patience and solace to Al Maktoum.
