Parts of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan shaken by powerful earthquake

New Delhi/Islamabad/Kabul:
A powerful earthquake shook parts of India, Afghanistan and Pakistan on Sunday evening, officials and residents said.

The tremors jolted buildings in the Indian capital and surrounding regions, residents said.

The #earthquake was also felt in Srinagar and elsewhere in Jammu and Kashmir besides Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

The tremors hit Kabul hard, Xinhua news agency said.

Pakistani media said the tremors were strongly felt in Lahore and other parts of Punjab province.

The quake struck at a depth of 236 km with epicentre determined in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region, Dawn online quoted Pakistan Meteorological Department as saying.

Tremors were felt in Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Swat Valley, Chitral, and Pakistan-admiistered Kashmir. No casualties has been reported yet.

Tremors were also felt in parts of Afghanistan, and in New Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan and Kashmir in India.

Fear and panic spread among residents who rushed out of their houses.
