111 including 53 girls participate in Quran memorization contest

The 18th edition of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Local Competition for Holy Qur’an Memorization and Interpretation, which carries cash awards of SR600,000 in various categories, was inaugurated here on Saturday.

A total 111 young competitors (58 boys and 53 girls) will participate in five different categories: Memorization of the Holy Qur’an fully with knowledge of recitation and interpretation, memorization with knowledge of recitation, memorization of 20 chapters with recitation, memorization of 10 chapters with recitation and memorization of five chapters with recitation, according to Arab News.

The competition aims at encouraging children to memorize the Holy Qur’an and understand its meaning so that they adapt the divine teachings as a way of life.

The ceremony to honor the winners is scheduled for Tuesday for girls and Wednesday for boys.
