Over 2.90 lakh students had appeared for EAMCET, a day after the Supreme Court delivered its judgement, asking all states to follow NEET. Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that Andhra Pradesh filed a review petition in the Supreme Court, seeking exemption from the apex court orders regarding National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions into medical and dental courses.
The minister also said that the reason why the state was seeking an exemption from NEET was because its case was different from the other states. It was also pointed out that the state is protected by Article 371(D) and the subsequent presidential order that gives special privileges in admissions.
The Andhra government still went ahead with the examination proceedings, despite the confusion after the court's order.
