New Delhi: More than 93 per cent of the five lakh people who participated in a survey on Narendra Modi App have supported demonetisation, the Prime Minister Office (PMO) claimed on Wednesday. The opposition however said the 'NM App Survey' is faked and dared the Prime Minister to face election if he is so much sure of the claimed support.
"More than 93 per cent people support the move to demonetize the old 500 and 1000 rupee notes, it said. Of the over 5 lakh responses so far, only 2 per cent have rated the move as 'very poor' or 'one star', the PMO claimed yesterday on the basis of the online survey, according to PTI.
The survey result was read out by IT and Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad at Cabinet meeting this evening, prompting the Prime Minister to say that it "reflects the mood" of the people.
"I thank people for the historic participation in the survey. It's satisfying to read the insightful views & comments," the Prime Minister tweeted along with the results of the survey conducted on Narendra Modi App.
However, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati on Thursdasy attacked Prime Minister by calling his survey on demonetisation as "fake and sponsored" and dared him to dissolve the Lok Sabha and face elections.
"The survey of Modiji is fake and sponsored. If he has guts then he should dissolve the Lok Sabha and face elections, then only real survey can be done," Mayawati told media outside the Parliament.
Congress party too questioned the survey stating that the official app of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to gauge public opinion on demonetisation comprised “manufactured questions and pre-fabricated answers by blind bhakts”.
“Modi Govt manufactures yet another lie through self serving survey on DeMonetisation. You can’t fool people of India through such gimmicks (sic),” party’s spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted.
In an embarrassment for Modi, the authenticity of the survey was also questioned by BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha.
In a series of messages tweeted soon after the survey results were out, Sinha said, "people must not get carried away by “planted stories & surveys conducted by vested interests”.
"Hard earned & well Intentioned savings over many years of our mothers & sisters for emergency can’t be equated with black money (sic),” Sinha added.
Modi had on Tuesday asked people to give their first-hand views and rate the Centres decision to spike Rs 500 and 1,000 notes on his official app.
On November 8, the government demonetised the higher value currency notes to curb "black money and corruption".
The demonetisation triggered chaos across the country, with people continuing to line up outside banks and ATMs in interminably long queues.
Questions have been raised about the online surveys in the past with experts claiming that such surveys can easily be manipulated and rigged.
Recently, the White House removed an online petition after it was found that 'signatures' - huge in number, recored in response did not meet the needed criteria.
Similar concerns were raised when Modi's Twitter followers dropped immediately after he announced discontinuation of old Rs 500 and 1000 notes. But, only a day later number of his followers suddenly increased once again.
