A Grading System, which is assigned for an individual is based on judgment of a student's achievements. The new system of grading has been introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) with the aim of minimizing the classification of the students on the basis of their marks.
This system reduces the unhealthy competition among the high achievers. It will also reduce the pressure and will provide the students with more flexibility and focus on better learning.
The grading systems are assigned in alphabets, especially the first five alphabets from A to E. The CBSE class 10 result are declared from the year 2010 on the basis of the students' grades.
GradingSystem for CBSE Board Results
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a new system of grading. In total there are 09 Grades awarded to students:
A1-- (91%-100%), A2 (81%- 90%), --- Highest Grade,
B1-- (71%-80%), B2 (61%-70%),
C1-- (51%-60%), C2 (41%-50%),
D-- (Below Average),
E1-- (Needs improvement),
E2-- (Unsatisfactory) –Lowest grade.
The CBSE has made a compulsory rule that states:
"Every student should be given grades rather than marks and ranks. The practice of declaring fail, promoted, detained has to be stopped and the grading method should be used in all subjects, and the number of candidates who have passed should be more than 500. In case of a tie or a couple of students scoring same marks, then the grade given will be the same for the both.
Advantages of grading system
- Grading systems will reduce the classification of the students based on their scored marks.
- This system will eliminate the competition between the achievers and higher achievers.
- It reduces the stress of the students, when comparing marks in different subject specially Physics and Maths which are considered to be the toughest subjects.
- The word “Fail” will be removed from the system and the precious lives of the students will not be at risk
- Helps the students, teachers, parents to judge the level of students understanding.
Disadvantages of grading system
- This system will not be able to bring the student distinctively.
- Differences in the scored marks will be unnoticed.
- Topper of the class will not be noticed in the grading system as all get the same grade “A1”.
- Students scoring 75%, 80%, 90 % will be awarded with the same grade.
