New Delhi: In a renewed hope for 55,000 students who failed Class X examinations held in 2017, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday announced that they will be given admissions at the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).
"There is no rule that a student who fails twice in Class X will not be given admission; most of them drop out. This is prevalent in both private and government schools," Manish Sisodia, who also holds the charge of education ministry, said.
The government said NIOS was selected for the move with an aim to reduce dropout rates because their curriculum is relatively easier. According to NIOS rules, a student needs to pass in three subjects out of five.
Also, the government announced that it plans to increase its education loan guarantee scheme to Delhi students studying outside the capital.
"Delhi students who later enroll in colleges and universities outside Delhi will also be eligible for the loan guarantee scheme and can take loans up to Rs 10 lakh," Sisodia said.
Sisodia also said that students under the NIOS will have credits unlike the Patrachar Vidyalaya Scheme of the Central Board of Secondary Education.
He said more centres will be made for girls so they do not have to travel very far from their homes.
Last year, Sisodia said, the government had decided to get these children admitted to CBSE's patrachar system. However, many students still failed to pass through.
