Chennai: A 19 year old spectator was on Monday gored to death by bull while 28 others were left injured during the Jallikattu celebration in Tamil Nadu's Paalamedu district in Madurai.
The youth from Dindigul, who has been identified as Kalimuthu, was standing at the bull collection point and watching the event when the bull after completing its run, suddenly attacked him.
The victim was a participant in the first round of the event and was attacked few minutes before the event concluded.
"Kalimuthu was out after his turn in the event and he was playing with the bull outside the arena in an open space when the bull attacked him," Madurai collector Veera Raghava Rao said.
Around 1,200 bulls were used and an equal number of policemen were posted to guard against any accident.
On Sunday around 79 people, including spectators, were injured in the season's first Jallikattu held at Avaniyapuram, also in Madurai.
There was a ban on Jallikattu, a popular bull taming sport, by Supreme Court till last year when it was lifted after a massive protest.
The festival had claimed two lives after it was celebrated following the state assembly passing a bill in its favor in 2017.
