Upset after being scolded, student guns down principal in Haryana

Yamunanagar: A Class 12 student of a private school in Haryana has been detained for allegedly shooting dead the principal on Saturday, officials said.

Upset after being scolded, the commerce student from Yamunanagar attacked principal Ritu Chabra with his father’s licensed revolver, police said.

Chabra suffered three bullet wounds and died in a hospital, Hindutan Times reported.

The student, son of a property dealer, was rusticated from school about a fortnight ago for poor attendance and for picking up fights, an official said.

The official said the student came to school with the weapon around noon and said he wanted to meet the principal. Then he headed straight to Chabra’s room and opened fire.

Haryana has witnessed a number of criminal cases involving schools. On September 08, 2017, Pradhyuman Thakur, a Class II student, was found murdered with his throat slit inside a washroom of the Ryan International School at Bhondsi in Gurugram.

Recently, a 15-year-old girl, went missing after she left home for tuition classes, was found dead on January 13 with 19 severe injuries to her body and signs of unspeakable torture. Her liver and lungs had been ruptured and an object had been jammed into her body.

The mutilated, half-naked body of the Class 10 student, from a village in Kurukshetra was found near a canal about 100 kilometres away, in Jind. Later on, a Class 12 student suspected to be involved in the case was found dead in the Bhakra canal.
