The concept of mobile police stations was introduced in 2012 to provide police assistance at people’s doorstep. They were first introduced in Chandigarh, Chennai, and also in Purandar, Pune. The Maharashtra government has recently taken a decision to make operational Mobile Police Station in all districts and major cities of the state.
“Most of the people are normally reluctant to approach police, especially in cases of minor disputes. But, these minor disputes if not resolved in time sometimes get transformed into major brawls creating serious law and order issues”, Poddar said.
The first Mobile Police Station of Malegaon is currently operating under Malegaon Taluka Police Station. It was launched in a special ceremony organized for the purpose at Jai Hind English Medium School and Jr College, Dabhadi.
