Mumbai: Barely hours before Instagram's scheduled launch of IGTV app on Friday, WhatsApp rolled out group video and audio calling facility for users in its latest update. WhatsApp and Instagram are both owned by Facebook - the social media giant struggling to increase its revenue.
Buzz was around since last few months about WhatsApp's group video and audion chatting feature. The feature in fact went live on some phones last month itself. However, with its official launch today everyone using iOS, Android and Windows smartphones will be able to chat on audio and video with multiple members of a group using the latest WhatsApp feature.
The feature was first announced at the Facebook annual developers' conference and was spotted on WhatsApp V.2.18.189.
How to use WhatsApp Group Video Call
- Start a video with a single participant.

- The C icon will let you see your contact list from which you can select participants to talk to.
- When you add a participant in the video call, that person will be notified of the call along with the remaining participants you have chosen. You can add a maximum of four members.
- After all the participants have accepted the invitation, the screen will split into four screens with each member featuring in each box.
WhatsApp has recently introduced several new features like enabling people to delete a message sent and even delivered to someone, to detect forwarded messages in the chat app and a forwarded label at the top of the message lets users know if it is a forwarded message. This feature could be helpful to do away with spam and fake messages in the chat app.
With the latest launches Facebook, the owner of Instagram and WhatsApp, plans to monetize its business with an aim to generate revenue. The company said it would soon start to charge major business firms for using WhatsApp business. However, the ongoing Cambridge Analytica data breach scandal has put plans of Global rollout of WhatsApp business on halt.
