
New Delhi: Despite a consistent counseling campaigns by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and some NGOs, three students committed suicide after they could not perform well in the Class 10 exams results of which were declared Tuesday.
The deceased included Rohit Kumar Meena, a student of M R Vivekananda Model School in Dwarka and a 15-year-old girl of Vasant Kunj area of New Delhi and a student of Ryan International School. The third incident of suicide is reported from Dabri area of New Delhi.
Rohit, a resident of Kakrola, had secured 59% marks in the CBSE 10th exam. He left no suicide note but it is suspected that he was upset after the results, police said.
The Ryan International School girl student allegedly committed suicide after she scored 70% marks. The girl committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her home, police said.
An initial probe conducted by the Delhi Police revealed that the girl student was disturbed with her performance in the boards as she wanted to take admission in the science stream for higher studies.
The CBSE declared the Class 10th result Tuesday afternoon. The board registered an overall pass percentage of 86.70% - about 4.25% less than 2017.
Four students -- Prakhar Mittal of DPS Gurgaon, Rimzhim Agarwal of RP Public School, Bijnor, Nandini Garg of Scottish International School, Shamli and Sreelakshmi G of Bhavan's Vidyalaya, Kochi -- topped the exam with 499 marks out of 500, the board said. While seven students secured the second position with 498 marks, 14 students bagged the third spot with a score of 497.
The CBSE Class X exam was conducted from March 05 to April 04, 2018 at 4,460 exam centres in 17,567 schools. A total of 1,624,682 students from India and abroad appeared for the exam. Of them 1,408,594 students were declared passed. As many as 27,476 students scored more than 95% marks whereas 1,31,493 students got more than 90% marks.
