Aligarh: The election for the posts of Chancellor, Pro Chancellor and Honorary Treasurer of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will be held in a special meeting of the University Court on December 2, 2018 at the NRSC Club, AMU.
"The meeting will start at 11:00 am on December 2", the university officials said adding that the agenda for the special meeting was issued on November 16, 2018 by University Registrar, Abdul Hamid (IPS).
The Chancellor, Pro Chancellor and Honorary Treasurer will hold office for a term of three years with effect from the date they are declared elected.
The annual meeting of the University Court will also be held at the NRSC Club at 3:00 pm to discuss 16 different items on the agenda, which was issued by the Registrar on October 27.
"Both meetings are being held as per the university rules and regulations", the official said.
The AMU Court is the supreme governing body of the University. It had elected Mufaddal Saifuddin, the head of the Bohra Community, as AMU Chancellor on April 11, 2015. Mufaddal Saifuddin's grandfather Tahir Saifuddin was AMU Chancellor from April 12, 1953 to April 28, 1965 while his father Burhanuddin served the university during 1999-2002.
In the 2015 elections, the Bohra leader secured 97 votes against 33 votes secured by Mahmoordur Rahman, a retired IAS officer and former Vice Chancellor of the AMU.
