Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday registered a voter turnout of a record 75%, the Election Commission of India said, though there were reports of EVM malfunctioning at various polling stations.

In 2013, the polling percentage in the state was 72.13 per cent.

About 2,899 candidates, including 1,094 independents, are in the fray for 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh. Among them are just 03 Muslims - Hamid Kazi, Arif Aqueel and Fatima Rasool.

Arif Aqueel of Congress and Fatima Rasool of BJP are contesting against each other in Bhopal North. On the other hand, Hamid Kazi is contesting from Burhanpur assembly seat.

The state has 5.04 crore eligible voters. Around 3,00,782 government employees, including 45,904 women, were on poll duty and 65,341 polling stations were set up, according to PTI.

The BJP is seeking re-election in the state consecutively for the 4th term. Analysts however are of the view that the situation in the state was against the ruling party.

In Mizoram, poll percentage dipped by more than 08%. The state had recorded a poll percentage of 83.41% in 2013. However, it registered a voter turnout of around 75%, EC said.

Polling was held on Wednesday in all 40 assembly seats in the northeast state.

Counting of votes in Madhya Pradesh as well as Mizoram will be done on December 11. The results will also be announced on the same day.
