Mumbai: Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh (BBM) Chief and Senior Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar on Thursday slammed the Congress for putting conditions to form an alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha and Maharashtra elections saying its tie-up with Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is firm and final.
"When Congress can ally with Muslim League why not Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh (BBM) tie-up with AIMIM?" Ambedkar said while talking to reporters in Mumbai on Thursday.
Ambedkar also said that he was willing to form an alliance with the Congress for the upcoming elections, but that would not be done at the cost of AIMIM.
"Our alliance with AIMIM is firm and final and we will not part ways to tie-up with the Congress. If Congress is willing to come together, it should do so with BBM-AIMM alliance. It cannot impose conditions", he said.
Prakash Ambedkar also said that his doors for alliance with the Congress will remain open till the last day of elections. But, he will never ally with Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
"Sharad Pawar is a secular leader but his party NCP is not", he said alleging that the NCP has always supported the BJP from behind the doors.
Earlier, talking to news agency PTI, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh (BBM) will forge an alliance for the Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly polls in 2019.
"(BBM Chief) Prakash Ambedkar ji will be holding a public rally in Aurangabad on 2 October in which I too will be present. The formal structure of the alliance will be announced later," Owaisi said.
Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM is based in Hyderabad and has 07 MLAs in Telangana assembly. However, Owaisi is trying to expand its party outside the Telangana state. In 2014, AIMIM won 02 seats in Maharashtra state elections and also won some seats in local elections.
The AIMIM, considered a Muslim party, also surprised its critics by fielding non-Muslim candidates. Some of them have also won the elections.
