New York: Taking a strong note of some references relating to Kashmir made during a recent meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), India on Wednesday said the representative body of the Islamic countries does not have locus standi to comment on it's internal matters.
"We have said in the past that the OIC has no locus standi to comment on India's internal affairs. We feel that it is completely unwarranted to discuss a matter related to India's internal affairs in any multi-cultural setup," Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said at a press conference in New York.
India's strong statement came after Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi briefed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on what it called "India's continued aggression and atrocities" in Kashmir.
The meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir was held on Wednesday on the sidelines of UN General Assembly at the UN Head Quarters in New York.
"We have always maintained that the matter, which is very internal to Indian affairs, was again discussed at the OIC. We reject such references to a matter very internal to India", Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.
Earlier, India's Ambassador to the United Nations, Syed Akbaruddin, also called Pakistan a 'one-trick-pony' for raking up the Kashmir issue at the United Nations General Assembly maintaining that India was confident of handling the situation.
Responding to a question about the possibility of Pakistan raking up the issue of Kashmir at the UN General Assembly Syed Akbaruddin stated that the UN works best on multilateralism, adding that 'single act plays have no resonance in such matters.'
India had on September 21 cancelled the proposed meeting between External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The meeting was finalised after India accepted Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's letter to Prime Minister Modi asking him to resume talks between the two countries.
India however cancelled the meeting after two Special Police Officers and one policeman in Jammu and Kashmir were kidnapped and killed by militants. India was also upset by the Pakistan's move to release stamps glorifying Burhan Wani, who was killed by the Indian security forces in 2016 in Kashmir.
