Slovakia Prime Minister Robert Fico is in critical condition after he was shot multiple times outside the House of Culture in the town of Handlova Wednesday afternoon.

Bratislava: Slovakia Prime Minister Robert Fico is in critical condition after he was shot multiple times outside the House of Culture in the town of Handlova Wednesday afternoon.

After the assassination attempt, he was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“The Prime Minister was shot multiple times and is currently in a life-threatening condition,” a message posted on Fico’s social media account said.

Bullet injuries in head, abdomen

According to Slovak media reports, Robert Fico was shot multiple times. He has sustained bullet injuries in the abdomen, arm, leg and also in the head.

Fico was shot at while he was leaving a government meeting in the central town of Handlova.

The alleged assailant has been detained by the police, local media said.

The post further said that Robert Fico is being transport to Banska Bystrica for emergency medical treatment.

“At this moment, he is being transported by helicopter to Banska Bystrica, because it would take too long to get to Bratislava due to the necessity of an acute intervention. The next few hours will decide,” the post said.

Condemnations pour in

Western leaders, from Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed shock at the shooting.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen condemned the assault too.

"I strongly condemn the vile attack on Prime Minister Robert Fico. Such acts of violence have no place in our society and undermine democracy, our most precious common good", she wrote on X.

Social media users however are linking the shooting with some recent incidents relating to WHO Global Pandemic Accord and his opposition to Ukraine war.

"The Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico has just been shot in public. This comes only days after Fico formally and publicly rejected the WHO Global Pandemic Accord", multiple users wrote on X.

"Only last week Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico gave this speech: I also clearly declare that we (Slovakia Democratic Party) WILL NOT support strengthening the Powers of the World Health Organisation”

“One study after another confirms the scandalous consequences of mass vaccination with experimental untested vaccines.”

“If someone had a different opinion on vaccination against Covid - they were dangerous to society.”

"Today he has been shot in public", he wrote.

"PM of Slovakia Robert Fico was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. Previously he criticized raising money for Ukraine, spoke out against Ukraine’s admission to NATO and said that the SMO began as a result of the rampant Ukrainian neo-Nazis & Putin had no other choice", another user wrote on X.
