5 injured in 'low-intensity' Varanasi blast

Tuesday December 07, 2010 07:37:35 PM, IANS

Varanasi: Around five people were injured in a "low intensity" blast in this temple town during the evening Ganga aarti ritual, a police officer said.

Deputy Inspector General Prem Prakash said that it was a low intensity blast and no deaths have been confirmed.

"It was a low intensity blast, and four to five people are injured," Prakash told CNN IBN on phone.

"No casualties have been reported yet," he said.

The DIG however said that the police were yet to ascertain if it was a bomb or some other type of blast.

"We have not analysed the blast, it is difficult to say if it was an explosive. But by the way it occurred it looks like a low intensity blast," he said.
