Bhopal:
Popular Front of India will start the two month-long National
Campaign for Muslim Reservation with the inaugural Public Meeting to
be held at Pune in Maharashtra on January 31.
According to a Press release issued by
O M A Salam, Secretary, Popular Front of India Convener, Campaign
Committee, ex-MP Syed Shahabuddin, who is the General Convener of
National Movement for Muslim Reservation and Joint Committee of
Muslim Organizations for Empowerment, will formally inaugurate the
National Campaign at Mahatma Phule ground in Quarter Gate area of
the city at 7.00 p.m. The chairman of Popular Front E. M. Abdul
Rahiman will preside over the function.

Usman Baig Rashadi, president, All India Imams Council, Suresh
Khairnar, National Convener, All India Secular Forum, Abdul Hannan,
Karnataka state general secretary Social Democratic Party of India,
and Shubhas Ware (Third Front) are among the speakers.
The Campaign for Muslim Reservation
during the months of February and March is being launched in the
backdrop of Justice (Retd.) Rangnath Mishra Commission report which
has recommended 10 percent reservation to all Muslims in education
and government employment. The campaign will include series of
public awareness programmes such as pamphlets, posters, exhibitions,
street meetings, vehicle caravans, rallies, seminars, street plays
and cultural shows in various states during the campaign period.
Wall posters and hand bills
highlighting the theme are being circulated in languages such as
Urdu, Hindi, English, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil,
Malayalam and Manipuri to suit the requirements of different
states. The campaign will by and large cover 16 states. The call
for a united movement for Muslim Reservation is well received and
the community has come forward to organize awareness programmes in
many Muslim concentrated cities.
The Popular Front’s Bangalore-based
headquarters has so far informed the scheduled of programmes which
is at following places:
February 3: Changanachery in Kerala;
March 7: Jaipur ;
February 14: Goa;
March 7: Nandyal in AP;
February 20: Muzaffar Nagar in UP;
March 8: Patna;
February 21: Aligarh;
March 8: Jaipur;
February 22: Lucknow;
March 8: Bangalore;
February 23: Azamgarh in UP ;
March 9: Indore;
February 26: Gulbarga in Karnataka;
March 10: Murshidabad in West Bengal;
March 5: Hyderabad;
March 10: Thiruvananthapuram;
March 5: Mysore;
March 12: Kolkata;
March 6: Kurnool in AP;
March 12: Mangalore;
March 7: Darbhanga;
March 14: Imphal.
Meanwhile, a march to Parliament is
scheduled on March 18 at New Delhi as part of the campaign, the
release added.
