New Delhi:
The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Thursday said the
political developments in Karnataka had proved that the Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP) was "the practitioner of the worst form of
political opportunism".
"The BJP's much tom-tomed foray into south India with the
formation of this government in May 2008 has exposed unprecedented
levels of corruption and opportunism," said an editorial in the
latest issue of CPI-M organ People's Democracy.
Referring to the "violent confrontation" in the state assembly Oct
11 following the disqualification of 16 legislators and barring
their entry into the state assembly by the speaker, the CPI-M said
it was "a brazen act of constitutional impropriety".
"So much so for a party that claimed to give a model government
when it assumed office. If anything, the BJP has shown itself as a
party that is willing to throw to the winds all norms of political
morality in order to remain in office," it said.
The CPI-M reaction came after the BJP narrowly won a vote of
confidence in the state assembly.
