Pranab releases new renditions of national anthem

Friday August 12, 2011 08:26:45 PM, IANS

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Friday released a new audio-visual presentation of Rabindranath Tagore's poem "Jana Gana Mana" - the country's national anthem - in its full five stanzas sung or played on an instrument by various artists.

The audio-visual capsule is titled, "Jaye He (Final Victory)".

The release was also attended by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni and Culture Minister Kumari Selja, the culture ministry said in a statement.

Mukherjee is the chairperson of the National Implementation Committee to commemorate Tagore's 150th birth anniversary.

The audio-visual presentation "Jaya He" features 39 Indian artists such as Girija Devi, M. Balamuralikrishna, Nithyashree Mahadevan, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma on santoor, Pandit Vishwamohan Bhatt on the mohan veena, Sunidhi Chauhan, Kailash Kher, P. Susheela, Jagjit Singh and Shankar Mahadevan and folk singers like Lopamudra Mitra and Lakhandas Baul.

It delves into a variety of emotions that range from Tagore's paeans to nature and love across to writings that expressed his political concerns and beliefs, culminating into his essential philosophy of universal brotherhood.
