Former army official working for ISI nabbed

Himachal Pradesh Police have arrested a former Indian Army official who was allegedly working for Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) agency and providing information about vital installations of the Indian armed forces, a police official said here Monday.   »

Pune: A 24-year-old Indian man suspected to be spying for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was arrested from the city's Bund Garden area, police said Wednesday. He was also assisted by an army soldier, who is on the run.

"Acting on a tip-off, we arrested Vishwambhar Tarachand Agarwal yesterday from near Alankar theatre. We suspect him to be an ISI spy," Police Inspector Satish Govekar told reporters here.

Police said that Agarwal belongs to Bidola village in Haryana and was staying in the Nigdi area of the city the past many years.

"Agarwal has also named an army jawan, Brijesh Kumar, as his aide, who is absconding." Govekar said.

Several photographs of the Southern Command, Pune cantonment area, a hand-drawn map of the area and a CD have been seized from him.

"A list of some army officers, along with their names, designations and telephone numbers have also been seized," Govekar said.

Agarwal's cellphone, PAN card, watch and cash worth Rs.1,500 were also seized.

"We might be able to get an idea of the whereabouts of Brijesh Kumar and the people he called from his cellphone," Govekar said.

Agarwal has been remanded in police custody till Feb 7.
